Sky Work

9/19/2016

Sky Embers was inspired by an  artist’s residency at Wiawaka on Lake George. It was July, hot and dry. We all longed for a storm that never came. My original painting, on paper, envisioned a sky full of threat and power. Wishful thinking.
When I got back to my studio  I painted a larger version on canvas.
This time I  wanted the sky to seem on fire, but ready to deliver the much desired storm.

Norway by Train

We were on the way to Bergen, passing glaciers, snowy mountains, it felt like traveling through clouds, I was captivated by the muted colors, the mist…Later, In the studio I searched for a palette that would help to recreate that journey. Norway by Train is a series of three canvases designed to be viewed together, as I saw them, through the windows.

Palette: Maimeri prussian blue, yellow ochre and permanent carmine with blk/wht.
